BIDDEFORD, Maine (March 14, 2019) — Hyperlite Mountain Gear announces the release of the Dirigo 2, a self-contained, three-season, two-person shelter constructed with a blend of five different Dyneema® Composite Fabrics to deliver a minimalist but feature-packed structure that offers category-leading ratios of weight, waterproofness, breathability, and long-term durability. Dirigo 2 is available today at www.hyperlitemountaingear.com.
Constructed with ultralight Dyneema® Composite Fabrics, originally developed for high-performance sailing and military applications, the fully seam-sealed and waterproof Dirigo 2 weighs just 1 pound, 12 ounces. The shelter pitches easily using eight stakes (four stakes for a minimalist build), two adjustable trekking poles, and a patent-pending carbon Ridge Bar that offers superior strength and stability.
With two opposing doors for easy entry and exit, two vestibules for gear storage, and two large mesh walls for maximum ventilation, the Dirigo 2 boasts a 32.5-square-foot floor area and sidewall guy-out points for increased living space.
Hyperlite Mountain Gear Founder and CEO Mike St. Pierre:
“When we began working on the Dirigo 2 in 2014, we found a compelling design challenge: how do we build a floored shelter that delivers the durability and light weight for which Hyperlite Mountain Gear is known, while also providing a confidence-inspiring tent that is stable in all conditions encountered on the trail. We endeavored to produce the best tent for the Appalachian Trail or Pacific Crest Trail and I believe we hit the mark.
“Every product Hyperlite Mountain Gear has ever marketed has been designed to meet the unique engineering challenges presented by the incredible Dyneema® fiber. Throughout our extended testing, not only have we seen our unique blend of five Dyneema® fabrics stand up to the desert-canyon gauntlet laid out by ambassadors like Rich Rudow, but we have also received high marks for comfort, ease-of-use and stability across each of the U.S. Triple Crown thru-hiking trails.”
