BRECKENRIDGE, Colorado (December 9, 2016) – In front of an electric crowd in Breckenridge, Colorado, on Thursday night, POWDER Magazine named Guilt Trip, a production of Switchback Entertainment and Salomon, “Best Documentary” at the most prestigious ski awards show of the year. Kalen Thorien, Salomon athlete and a main character in the film, accepted the award and also took home second place in the women’s POWDER poll.
The POWDER Awards celebrate skiing by honoring the top athletes, filmmakers and photographers every year. To many, the show signifies the kick off to the ski season.
“We are deeply honored to win this award. With Guilt Trip, we wanted to create something that had a little more impact, something beyond the standard-faire ski flick. This project was a tremendous undertaking and it opened our eyes to the real abnormalities our planet is facing due to climate change,” states Mike Douglas, who appeared in the film in addition to his directorial and production credits.
Directed and produced by Douglas and Anthony Bonello, Guilt Trip explores the carbon footprint created by globe-trotting skiers, following Douglas, Thorien and Chris Rubens, as well as renowned glaciologist Alun Hubbard on a ski expedition to Greenland’s Paris glacier. While the athletes attempted to ski Greenland’s second-highest peak, Mt. Forel, Hubbard conducted research on the structure of the glacier ice, and the speed at which it is melting.
Celebrating Salomon TV’s 10th anniversary, Guilt Trip debuted at the Banff Mountain Film festival in October and has since premiered in New York City and Toronto, as well as Revelstoke and Whistler, B.C.
The award-winning film will show on Friday, Dec. 9 at the evo flagship store in Denver, or can be viewed online at http://tv.salomon.com/story/guilt-trip.
