TAHOE CITY, Calif. (Jan. 14, 2019)— Cody Townsend and Summit Lunch Productions are pleased to officially launch “The Fifty,” a web series following Cody Townsend’s attempt to climb and ski all 50 of the iconic big-mountain lines documented in the 2010 book, “Fifty Classic Descents of North America,” by Chris Davenport, Penn Newhard and Art Burrows.

Says Cody Townsend: “‘Fifty Classic Descents of North America’ chronicles 50 of the most challenging, aesthetic and world class ski lines in North America. As the quintessential encyclopedia of North American ski mountaineering, it draws allure and intrigue, and lays atop the coffee tables of many diehard skiers. From Alaska to Colorado, California to Baffin Island, these locations offer some of the most difficult and amazing ski lines in the world. All of them have at least one historical descent, but one person has not skied them all. Over the course of the next three years, I will attempt to ski every line as told in the book and will document the adventure, challenge and fun in the web series entitled ‘The Fifty.’”

The 50-episode web series will follow Townsend as he attempts to climb and ski every classic line in North America.  With a goal of releasing one episode every two weeks, the episodes will document the history behind each line, Cody’s ski descent, the mountains of the specific region, and the stories of the people within the region. While the primary goal is to climb and ski every line, the unheralded, yet greater goal is to embark on one hell of an adventure and have a lot of fun along the way.

“The Fifty” is presented by Salomon with support from Swatch and YETI. Additional support is provided by Hestra, Thule, Smith, Sufferfest Beer and Arcade.

About Cody Townsend: From his first ski run at Squaw Valley at the age of 2, Cody Townsend knew he had found his passion. He spent his early years chasing legends like Shane McConkey and Kent Kreitler around his home mountain before being recognized in his own right as an up-and-coming big-mountain skier. Since becoming a professional skier, a decade ago, Cody has constantly pushed the limits of fun and adventure. From skiing what some have called “the most insane ski line ever” to adventuring in the Arctic and hanging in the backcountry with his buds, Cody embodies what skiing was meant to be: a journey of exploration and relentless passion in the company of friends.
